PPS is used in the electronic and electrical field for coil bobbins, connectors, switch relays, cable connectors, semiconductor packaging, 5G communication, etc., due to its low moisture absorption, flame retardancy, and excellent electrical insulation properties. In the traditional fuel vehicle field, it can be used for engine peripheral components to withstand high temperatures, lightweight and complex structures, and corrosive fuels. In new energy electric vehicles, it is used for fuel cell peripherals, charging piles, and motor winding components. In the energy field, due to its excellent mechanical and electrical properties, it is used for batteries, radiation shielding, structural support, blades, and pipeline linings. In the petrochemical industry, it is used for pipeline systems and linings due to its good chemical resistance and heat resistance. In the aviation and military industry, it is used for satellites, electronics, and communication components that need to withstand the harsh tests of space and other extreme environments. In the mechanical industry, it is used for gears, bearings, and automated conveyor equipment due to its high strength and stiffness, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance. In the medical and pharmaceutical field, it is used for drug delivery, medical equipment, surgical instruments, and connecting devices. Additionally, PPS can be extruded into melt-spun nonwoven fabrics using melt-blowing and spunbond technology, and used to manufacture sheets, rods, and other profiles through extrusion molding.
Can the long-term heat resistance of PPS meet the requirements of high-temperature components?
PPS exhibits excellent thermal aging performance due to its highly stable chemical bonds. During the initial aging process, the benzene ring forms a carbon layer, which subsequently protects the inner layer from oxidation. PPS can withstand short-term temperatures up to 260°C, and its long-term heat resistance index according to UL746B is around 200-240°C. Its heat resistance degradation is not a problem below 200°C. However, when exposed to high temperatures above 200°C in the presence of oxygen, it experiences a decline in physical properties and discoloration, which becomes more pronounced at higher temperatures or with longer exposure time.
